August's Featured Artist: Suzanne L. Andrews
The featured artist for the month of August will be Suzanne L. Andrews. She grew up in the Adirondacks surrounded by nature and it has always inspired her. She attributes this closeness to nature to her father who imparted his love of the outdoors to her. She has resided in picturesque Jeffersonville for 42 years surrounded by nature. For 35 of those years, while successfully teaching biology at the high school and college levels, her return to nature would recharge and renew her spirit. After retiring in 2019, she took a drawing class for something different to do. She loves color and after dabbling with various methods, decided on watercolors. The goal of Suzi’s art is to realistically capture something that has captivated her. She wants the viewer of her work to feel transported to a place or a memory as a result of what she has painted. Her artwork is developed from her photographs taken while hiking or kayaking and used to design an original piece of art. Sometimes, several photos end up being merged into one painting. Each piece is original and hand-rendered from drawing to painting. Please come view some of her work at the Wurtsboro Art Alliance located at 73 Sullivan Street from Saturday, August 2nd to Sunday, August 31st. We will be open Saturdays and Sundays from 12-4 pm. In addition to being an excellent artist, “Suzi” has been an elected board member and has served as our Secretary and Media Specialist. All of our online presence has been created and maintained to perfection under her care. Suzi will be leaving her board position at the end of this 2025 gallery season. She will once again return to the Northern Adirondacks, the area which holds dear the nature and outdoors she first came to love. We thank her for all she has done, wish her well on this life journey and we all will miss her massive contribution to the success of the WAA gallery. Thanks Suzi, happy trails….
