November's Featured Artist: Shannon Streiff
The Wurtsboro Art Alliance will be featuring the work of Shannon Streiff for the month of November. Shannon was always the artist of her family and was encouraged by them to do her art. She originally joined the WAA gallery for a short time after finding us on one of her trips from Bloomingburg into Wurtsboro to use the local library with her children before Covid. Shannon rejoined the gallery in April 2024 as part of her decision to do art every day. On her journey to gently move forward with her art, she now does art as a daily practice even if it is for only five minutes to fit it into her busy home life. She has started a class at the gallery using DVAA grant funds to have people come and create their own sketch book for daily practice. Shannon’s son is also doing art with her and she hopes that he feels confident in his own skills and growth as an artist. Shannon's artistic style leans towards experimenting with textures and her work is organic in its use of items like sand from the ocean and even ink made from harvested black walnuts. Her subject matter is centered on the ethereal aspects of nature and the sanctuary it provides for us to be calm and discover what we need to feel happy, warm and at peace. Shannon does her art with the idea that it provides sanctuary and is an uplifting and joyful experience for her as the artist and for those viewing her art. Shannon believes wholeheartedly that her art is transformative and uplifting in a playful, mythical way.
