September's Featured Artist: Art Meier
The Wurtsboro Art Alliance will use the month of September to highlight the photography and contributions of three year member Art Meier. Once we emerged from Covid, Art wanted to find ways to be involved again and he happened to drive by the WAA gallery building. Upon his arrival, Art met the then WAA gallery president Karl LaLonde, sat down for a long chat and they have been close friends ever since.
It has been an interesting journey for Art to arrive at his digital photography of today from being named artist of the month in 6th grade very long ago. He says that using his Canon 30D, 70D and 90D cameras enables him to produce photos from micro to landscape. He also explained how his use of Lightroom with his digital photography has been a game changer. It has allowed him to turn his work into “paintings” especially using background controls to extend his work.
Art has become very active in promoting the Alliance and also several other galleries that have popped up in Wurtsboro. You can often find him helping out in Catskill Creative and visiting the owners of Synchronicity. He displays his work for sale in all three galleries and loves to chat with the visitors about his methods and product. Art said that some of his best digital photography lessons have come from YouTube… a definite link to Covid lockdown. The WAA gallery invites you to come and chat with him here and see his wonderful photos displayed in September’s show themed “Wanderings Envisioned.”
The Wurtsboro Art Alliance Plein Air club will also be the featured artists in the rear of the gallery for the month of September. Please come view their work for this season during gallery hours on Saturday and Sunday from 12 noon to 4pm. The opening of this month's show will be on September 7th. There will be a small reception with refreshments. Hope to see you there.
